Dedza offers a wonderful experience for the visitor. For people in Lilongwe and Blantyre, Dedza is an attractive destination for a weekend or longer trip. For those coming to Malawi, it can be combined with trips to nearby lake resorts at Cape MacClear and Mangochi and the Liwonde National Park.
The western part of the District is at a height of 1700m (5000ft) and the climate is pleasantly temperate and fresh. The eastern part is at the level of Lake Malawi (250m, 800ft) and is hotter.
Rolling grasslands interspersed with mountain ranges and isolated outcrops create beautiful scenery. Pockets of indigenous forest tucked into gullies in the mountains provide a varied habitat for wildlife.
Within the District are the Kungoni Centre of Culture and Art at the Mua Mission, the Dedza Pottery and Coffee Shop, a World Heritage site of rock paintings and four major Forest Reserves.
Accommodation to suit all budgets is available in Dedza Township and Mua. There are also numerous cafes and bars and places to buy high quality crafts.
Above all, the friendliness of the people ensures a warm welcome.
